Action needed to repeal HHS mandate

Men,

Unless you've ignored the news for the past few weeks, you are likely aware of the federal HHS mandate that is attacking our religious liberty and FIrst Ammendment rights, brought about by the Obama administration.
While our group is not a political entity, there is a time where doing the right thing requires political action.  This is such a time!

It will likely take legislation to reign in this current administration and this policy. Fortunately there are members of Congress willing to do so.   Send a message to your legislators to "co-sponsor and support the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act (HR-1179, and S-1467).  Please help ensure that the religious liberty and conscience rights of all participants in our nation's health care system are respected."

You can contact your US Representative and Senators by phone, email, or fax letter.  US Capitol switchboard is (202)224-3121 or call their local office.  Several websites will link you to your Washington Representative and send the emails for you from a template.  Here's one you can use: www.usccb.org/conscience

It takes just a few minutes, but this message must be heard loud and clear.  It is time to Walk Like A Man and add YOUR voice to the chorus!!

Thank you, Gentlemen, in advance.

February 10th & 11th

Hello all,

This Friday evening, we'll be watching the movie Courageous (2011) at the Riveras'.  It will be something of a 'date night,' so plan to bring your spouse, or significant-other.  The Riveras' will need to know how many are coming, so contact if you (and the +1) can make it.  I'll forward along contact information to you, if needed.

Then on Saturday morning, we'll be meeting at the same place/time as our usual Saturday morning sessions to go over chapters 9, 10 and 11.  I'll be presenting chapter 9, Matthew will be presenting chapter 10 and Matt will be presenting chapter 11.

See you there.

- Pete

01/21/12 Chapters 6-8

Hey all,

Today we covered chapters 6 through 8 of Kendrick and Alcorn's The Resolution for Men.  Lee walked us through chapter 6 - a discussion of modeling the love for our wives upon the love Jesus had for His church.  Bob explored chapter 7, particularly as it relates to our whole immediate family, kids included.  Jonesy took us through chapter 8, which centered around living with honor.

Next time, we will examine chapters 9, 10 and 11.  We'll being meeting in the same location on 02/11/2012.  The evening before, however, we will be meeting at Bob's house to view the movie Courageous.  For directions to that location, leave a comment to this post and I (Pete) can get in touch with you.

12/17/2011

On Saturday we reviewed the first three chapters of our current study.  Those first three chapters detailed several points that note what the full measure of a man is characterised by.  In some cases, probably more like 'most,' these points involve action outside of the normal 'comfort zone.'  That is to say that, particularly in human society and culture, it has become all too easy for a man to passively stand by and turn away from a difficult situation that may, in fact, require action.  How does one address a situation where the likely outcome will result only in criticism?  What if doing the right thing involves only 'cost,' and no 'benefit?'

As the study continues, such questions will be answered.  While the answers may prove as tough as the questions, they should serve as a call to action.  Let's not stand by and be defined - let's be definitive.

The next meeting will take place on the first Saturday of January (i.e. 01/07/2012) at the same time and location.  For that date, we are reading chapters 4, 5 and 6.

Merry Christmas to all!

First Meeting

Earlier today, a group of men interested in defining their lives, rather than having them extrinsically defined, met to discuss how to do so.  It was a meeting largely concerned with introductions as most did not know each of the others.  The group also began to investigate the concept of manhood.  What is it?  How may it be reasonably and acceptably defined?  How does one become a man?  When does one become a man?  How can one know that they "have arrived?"

The initial steps of the journey will be explored in the context of the book The Resolution for Men (Kendrick, S., Kendrick, A., Alcorn, R. [Ed: Kimbrough, L.].  (2011).  B&H Publishing Group: Nashville).  We intend to begin by meeting every other Saturday morning (i.e. next is on 12/17/2011).  We will be acquiring copies of the book for use and intend to start by reading the first 50 pages by the 17th.

If you have an interest, post a comment and someone will contact you (i.e. e-mail) with further details.

The world will continue to be a difficult place, but the men in it, who are true, can never fail.

Blog Genesis

It is, and has never been, enough to talk like a man, one must walk like one as well.  This is even more true regarding the world to come than the arena in which we now find ourselves (cf. Psalms 14:12).
